We're back to one of those busy weekends that hit Central Arkansas about once every four or five months, where there are actually about five things we'd really like to do and the enough conflicts to ensure that we'll only get two of them in, at best.
But, if we were looking for something tonight, here's three big ones:
The Arkansas Repertory Theatre opens a monthlong run of Rodgers and Hammerstein's "The King and I." Nightly showtimes are 7 p.m. Friday through Sunday this weekend, with matinees at 1 p.m. Saturday and 2 p.m. Sunday. Call 378-0405.
Lawrence Hamilton will bring Della Reese to Little Rock tonight for "In the Spirit," a benefit holiday show at Robinson Center Music Hall. Reese, whose probably best known to the youngsters as the actress who started in "Touched by an Angel," was a star R&B and jazz singer back in the day. Hamilton's not to shabby himself, and the Philander Smith Choir that he leads will be singing some terrific arrangements of holiday favorites. Tickets are $20 and $30 at the door.
The North Mississippi Allstars are getting all the ink about their two shows this weekend at the Revolution Room, and deservedly so for the talent they bring in their bluesy-jam style. But the opening act tonight and tomorrow, Earl Greyhound, is one of the hot names coming out of New York. Showtimes are 9 p.m. both nights. $17 at the door.
