I start getting calls about noon Thursday all saying, “Matt get us some good tickets and let's go to the show!” This is for a show that is reportedly sold out with about 14,000 tickets purchased (EDITOR'S NOTE: The actual count was 12,751). I usually go on
THE BUZZ Zone Show with Joe, Justin & Nathan on the Thursday’s that I am in town. But, they are in Conway, so I am hanging out with Jeff Allen at The POINT 94.1FM. They share a building with The Buzz, their sister station. HINDER just happens to stop by! Ticket problem solved! Now, thanks once again to Jeff & The POINT 94.1, we got good tickets on the floor!
I still got to round up tickets for my boys BIG JAKE and BIG SHANE. I am
lucky because Scott Fitzgerald and Blake at The EDGE 100.3 have the two
seats I need. Perfect way to come through in the clutch, Scottie! Problems
solved, ON WITH THE SHOW! Jake can really cut through a crowd. At about seven-feet tall, he is a mountain. This guy is Shaq sized! He is about to become American Express with my crew – we can’t leave home without him.
We get to the arena and the place is FULL. I love it! It is always good to see a crowd at a RAWK show. This band is in the TOP 40, and Little Rock has always been a TOP 40 town, exceptions being the Rolling Stones and anything country.
Jeff wants to stop by Mr. Jennings Osborne’s spot and say hello. We do. Paul Young is hanging out with his wife and friends. He is always a nice guy, just super really. Mr. Osborne had not made it in at this point in the evening. You know, I never really got that whole Christmas Lights thing back in the day. Mr. Osborne supports Arkansas and Arkansas things. Every Jermain Taylor fight, he is there! Razorbacks at a bowl game, you bet – he is all about it. So, what’s up with the lights!
Where those protesters just Scrooges? BAH HUM BUG types? How can you
hate Christmas lights? I wish the man had his lights back! He can also throw a kickin’ barbeque feast! Much respect to Mr. Osborne!
Meanwhile, down on the floor the action is jumping. People in the pit are going crazy. We made it down to the floor for Nickelback. The crowd was wild. There was a discussion of tequila and beaches like Sammy Hagar, but all the acts borrow material from someone. The drum solo was very, very good. He isn’t Tommy Lee, Jason Bonham, or Randy Castillo, but the boy can beat those skins! The best part of the show was two different tributes.
One video and song went out to Pantera guitar player Dimebag Darrell. This was a beautiful video and fitting tribute. The song “Rockstar ” included a video salute to Ozzy, the Rolling Stones, Metallica, AC/DC and other great acts in the history of Rock & Roll.
The entire line up put on a good show. A person can rarely see four bands on a touring bill and have all of them put on a great performance. As Jim Harris said to me, Hinder may be the best opening act on a four-band rock how in Little Rock in years, maybe ever. And then you had Chevelle and Hoobastank, all along with Nickelback.
