in Hillcrest is being sold. Adam Frith
and John Newbern
, who created the concept 10 years ago, along with newer partner Merritt Maham
, are selling their interest in the coffee house and restaurant to Dr. Rebecca Esch
, who has been a regular customer there. Kathy Webb
, the owner of Lilly’s Dim Sum Then Sum, will be an investor. The deal won’t be finalized until Aug. 21, but Frith said he expects no problems in that regard.
Sufficient Grounds, at 722 N. Palm St., was the 2002 winner of the Arkansas Business Small Business of the Year.
Frith, Newbern and Maham cited growing families and new opportunities for selling. Frith is training with Edward Jones Investments in Little Rock to be a stock broker. Maham has accepted a territory manager position with Performance Food Group in Little Rock. Newbern left the day-to-day operation of Sufficient Grounds early this year while maintaining his ownership interest and works for Federal Express in Collierville, Tenn.
