AmyB helps you get your weekend started with some good plans for tonight:
We’re making this short and sweet. A great show last in the Asylum Street Spankers, with local openers Mason and Conrad from Sugar and the Raw. You’ve come a long way, baby. Keep your eyes and ears open for their upcoming dates.
Of course, our choice for local acts would be Parachute Woman tonight at White Water Tavern. It’s been a while for them, we just hope that they keep the creative momentum gong, write some new songs and stay together ,by Cracky. Tell them so at 10 p.m.tonight $5. And yes, I did say they were like Tom Waits, Jimmy Page and Junior Kimbrough taking a pre-noon swig of Night Train.
Before that we’re going to go see our pal Mark Simpson at Starving Artist Café. 6-8:30 p.m., Not just because he’s my pal, but because he will take you there, single-handedly to Holly Springs or Greensville with a flourish of his slide. And also he does a killer slide guitar version of “War Pigs.”
No cover go check it out. Bet.
And also: another pal and co-worker, Brian Chilson we know here at the Times as one hardworking photographer, will have his beautiful photographs on display tonight at the Historic Arkansas Museum. 5- 8 p.m. with music by Sean Rock and Roland Gladden.
He’s got the rock stars, sports stars and political stars captured on print. Free.
Kickin’ Country with Mike McClure with openers No Justice tonight at Sticky Fingerz. 10 pm.. $7.
Much rock and blues fun, we guarantee, tonight or tomorrow at Cajun’s, with the Cate Brothers Fri.-Sat. 8 p.m. $5.
The walls will shake, we can guarantee that, too tonight at Downtown Music. On the roster this evening: the Sound of Urchin and Lythium. 10 p.m. $5. All ages.
Chris Cash, with a big local and Conway following, is at Juanita’s. $6, ages 18 and up.
See ya out tonight.-AmyB
