A few months back, the IMAX had a free event of the filmed concert “Me and Mr. Johnson,” Eric Clapton’s concert honoring blues-man/pioneer/priest/conjurer Robert Johnson. Tonight at 7 p.m., they will do another free concert film, featruring Etta James’ July 2005 performance at “Austin City Limits.”. More mainstream listeners may know “At Last,” “I’d Rather Go Blind” and the work she’s done with the Rolling Stones and Coca-Cola commercials.
Others know her as “Miss Peaches” a hard-driving ,hard working blues and jazz vocalist who took/ takes no prisoners. She lets you have it, like Koko Taylor’s naughty sister. The film with be shown at 7 p.m. tonight at the IMAX, doors open at 6 p.m. 376-IMAX. It’s free.
After that, if you want some live blues, R&B, and want it live, Ramona Jones and the Soul Rhythms tonight at Cajun’s Wharf. 8 p.m. $5.
Or where we’re heading tonight: Austin-based Asylum Street Spankers. Sticky Fingerz. Tonight. Not your mamaw’s string band performance, be warned. They use traditional string band instruments: fiddle, guitar, dobro, ukulele, bass, saw, etc., but with racier themes. Yes, racier. Check out this link www.myspace.com/asylumstreetspankers.
Crazy fun, eh?
And we’ve yet to see Conrad and Mason from Sugar and the Raw, doing an unplugged acoustic thing, so we’ll make sure to get there right at. 9 p.m. $10.
