AmyB zips in on her way to her blues radio show on KABZ today (3-5 p.m.):
No, I haven't been neglecting my duties, I promise. Sometimes a little lull is necessary to build up the week, right?
I'm gearing up to help our team here at the Times for the 48 Hour Film Festival. Last year, my big claim to fame on our film "My Hero" was the spit curl coif of our Super hero. This year, I'm hoping to expand my film horizons. There were a lot of cool little movies, and the theater was filled with every freaky artiste type around. Sign up now at www.48hourfilm.com. We like the friendly competition. Really.
But that's there, for here, tonight:
Plumb pretty:Tthe kind of sweet, kind of Nashville rock girl Plumb will be at Sticky Fingerz tonight with OmniSoul opening. www.plumb.com. 9 p.m. $10. Good for those of you that like the strong vocals of Shirley Manson or Amy Lee, and the songwriting style of Suzanne Vega.
Always Sure bet with Rob and Tyndall from Mojo Depot. Grateful Dead, Taj Mahal, originals, sitar all hippy-fried and ready for some two-on-one acoustic action. Afterthought. 8 p.m. No cover.
Easy blues, Hot Tuna style: Mo Brothers at Cajun's Wharf. 8 p.m. $5.
Oh yes, it's Ladies Night: At the Underground Pub. Live DJ (from Power 92). Women have no cover, men are $5. Starts at 8 p.m.
Flaming hard rock and metal at Juanita's, say ahem, amen? Mid South Metal Society is hosting Fireball Ministries with Eva Braun and Dreading Sundown. 9 p.m., $8. Fireball Ministries has toured with Dio, Anthrax, Motorhead , Danzig, Slayer, Lamb of God. Check it: www.fireballministries.com.
Tomorrow is gonna big a big night, for some of us, anyway. Kooky (in a good way) acoustic string band will be at Sticky Fingerz tomorrow when Asylum Street Spankers come in. That'll be the show to see. A must hear:Christina Marrs doing "Shave "em Dry. I'm blushing as I type this.
See ya out.
