Folk Club brings in Boulder Acoustic Society

comment

This news made it too late for our regular edition, but the Little Rock Folk Club has a show tonight featuring the Boulder Acoustic Society, a four-piece band that the club says has a "new take" on American roots music.

The group features three guys who play ukulele, not necessarily at the same time, but we still found that interesting that three of the four play the instrument. Must make for interesting ham sessions.

The group is Aaron Keim (double bass, ukulele, banjo), Brad Jones (guitar, ukulele, vocals), Kailin Yong (violin, mandolin, ukulele, vocals), and Scott Higgins (marimba, snare drum, percussion). Each is considered an accomplished multi-instrumentalist with musical background in nationally acclaimed symphony and ballet orchestras, traditional jazz ensemble, and violin and chamber music. String band purist will love them, their music is modern and accessible, serious yet light hearted. Mark O'Connor  of the Appalachia Waltz Trio gives them a hearty thumbs up, so that's good enough for us.

The show is at 7:30 p.m. at Thomson Hall in the Unitarian Universalist Church, 1818 Reservoir Road. Admission is $10 for adults, $5 for students and free for children 12 and under.
