AmyB has a smile on her face, because it's sunny and NOT raining. But soon, it will be dark, when Amy really smiles and GETS OUT. Here are her suggestions for a nice Thursday evening:
We would go to Sticky Fingerz tonight to see bombastic instrumental acoustic rock duo El Ten Eleven, from Silverlake, Calif. Don’t yawn from the description; it’s the kind of mind-melding kinetic rock where words become useless. These words are useless, check them out www.myspace.com/elteneleven. Get there at 9:30 p.m. sharp, because you don’t want to be missing the opening act, local intelligent pop-rock group Sao Paulo (led by Bryan Frazier). Admission tonight is $5.
If you’re having a severe case of cha-cha-cha, Cuban dance instructor Marcus Howard will be giving FREE Salsa lessons at Argenta Coffee House 7- 9 p.m. tonight, and every Thursday in May for free. If you don’t have a partner, that’s OK: apparently there’s a higher number of female participants and they just double up with each other. (Ok guys, no Caged Heat fantasies necessary). The number there is 372-3670.
And indie rock band Lying in States is at White Water tonight, and not the Sport’s Page. Here’s the band’s link: www.myspace.com/lyinginstates
It starts at 10 p.m., admission is $5.
Guitarist Nick Devlin (Salty Dogs, Amy Garland Band) and Richie Johnson (all around town) are at Grumpy’s tonight. No Cover.
Cover band with the area’s best session musicians, Third Degree are at Cajun’s tonight. 8 p.m., $5.
The Paper Boys at Afterthought tonight. Free. 8 p.m.
Jazz night tonight at East Street Piano Bar. Carlos Summers is featured. Tips are appreciated.
Also tonight, if you’re not in the mood for dance and clubs, if you’re in the mood for something more traditional: The Little Rock Musical Coterie will have a sacred music program at the Levy Baptist Church tonight. 7 p.m. free.
Local fans can get on the Cash, Chris Cash that is tonight at Juanita’s, along with Will Gunselman. 9 p.m., $5.
At Vino’s they’re out for FRESH BLOOD with new bands Goodbye Design and Rose in the Chair. 8:30. p.m., all ages.
I’ve been getting on myspace waaaaaaaayyyyy too much lately. It’s highly addictive. I don’t recommend it to anyone. It’s rumored to be the third busiest web site in the world. Hmmm … I should check that out …
A lot of folks use it for professional reasons: There’s music myspace accounts for almost any band. Most of your favorite local bands have one. Most everyone I know has one now. Better watch, though, your company may be checking it out …
