Route 66 Diner held its grand opening Monday at 7710 Cantrell Road (former home of Burger Mama's). All this week, the 50's-themed diner offers fifty-cent hot wings and free soft-serve ice cream. Owner Jason Holt has spent twenty years working in chain restaurants and hopes to make Route 66 a franchise. The 50's-themed restaurant has a soda bar and soon, it will have a jukebox and blue plate specials offering "all the classics like meatloaf, liver and onions and chicken-fried steak," Holt said. There's also a Diamond Bear root beer float on the menu. Currently Route 66 only serves lunch and dinner, but over the next few months, Holt plans to begin serving breakfast as well. The place is kid-friendly and alcohol-free. Credit cards are welcome, and a round meal will cost you $10 or less. Hours are 6 10:30 a.m.-9 p.m. Mon.-Thurs., 10:30 a.m.-10 p.m. Fri.-Sat., closed on Sunday. Once breakfast begins, they plan to open at 6 a.m. Call (501) 223-3366 for more info.
