The summary Mueller report is out and Donald Trump proclaims it a total exoneration. Let that be the open line.

“The investigation did not establish that members of the Trump Campaign conspired or coordinated with the Russian government in its election interference activities.”

Not word “government.” And Mueller made it clear Russia made efforts to interfere in the election.

On obstruction of justice:

“While this report does not conclude that the President committed a crime, it also does not exonerate him.”

Not exactly a seal of approval, but Attorney General William Barr in his comments said he concluded had committed no wrongdoing.

No collusion. That’s not a crime anyway but it’s been Trump’s rallying cry today at the end of an investigation he tried to stop. It did produce dozens of indictments and laid bare a cast of sleazy characters, but, for now, those are secondary issues. Some other pending investigations remain to be completed.

Meanwhile: E-mails! And the campaign for 2020, where the Russians are already at work, and not for a Democratic candidate.

And meanwhile, it took Trump no time to roll out a Triumphal campaign ad.
