  • BAD DAY FOR A TAILGATE: At War Memorial Stadium in Little Rock.

Here's the open line as a sodden group of hardcore tailgaters await the Arkansas-Ole Miss football game at what is a virtually sold-out War Memorial Stadium. But in good news, they are having a fun at the Turkey Trot at Yellville, despite rain, without the spectacle of live turkeys plunging from airplanes.

orts on the Turkey Trot in Yellville, with new sponsorship of the local Rotary Club, which put the club's four-way test to good use (beneficial for all is one standard). It appears high school bands, music on the square, dancing, a beer garden, beauty queens and roasted turkey legs are plenty of fun without the presence of the scofflaws who delighted in dropping domestic turkeys from planes, sometimes to gruesome deaths.

Protests finally brought an end to the spectacle when major corporate sponsors sought to disassociate themselves from the event and its international bad headlines. The emphasis now is on community fun. Good, right? Many photos at the Baxter Bulletin.
