The state Board of Education today voted unanimously for the state to take over the Pine Bluff School District. KARK reports.

The action was widely expected because of declining enrollment, financial problems and the recent ouster of the superintendent.  The district was formally judged in fiscal distress. The elected board was removed as was the interim superintendent. Under state control, the district will be governed by Education Commissioner Johnny Key.

It’s the fourth district placed under state control, along with Dollarway, Earle and Little Rock.
