On Tuesday, August 14, 2018, the U.S. Marshals Service led Western Arkansas Fugitive Task Force (WATF), began working with the Washington County Sheriff’s Office, Arkansas State Police, Arkansas Probation and Parole, and the Federal Bureau of Investigation, in an attempt to locate and arrest Danny Trent Barrows. Barrows was wanted for the kidnapping of the mother of his child, and the kidnapping of his child in which an Amber Alert was issued by the Arkansas State Police.
Barrows was also wanted for Domestic Battery in the first degree and other charges. The Washington County Sheriff’s Office was the lead agency.
Based upon joint investigation endeavors on Monday, August 14, and Tuesday, August, 15, Barrows was to turn himself into US Marshals and Washington County Deputies on Wednesday morning. When officers arrived on scene near West Fork, Barrows forced a companion out of the vehicle he had been brought to the meet location in and led US Marshals and Washington County Deputies on a pursuit.
The weather conditions were very poor with heavy rain at the time. Due to public safety factors and other information obtained in the case, the pursuit was discontinued and a request was made to other agencies for assistance in locating Barrows. Numerous agencies responded including: Crawford County Sheriff’s Office, Mountainburg Police Department, Arkansas State Police, Arkansas Highway Police, and Arkansas Game and Fish Officers.
While officers were searching for Barrows in the area of Highway 71 and Highway 282, near Mountainburg, a 911 call came in reporting that a subject was attempting to jump from the I-49 Bridge located at mile marker 33 which was near the search area. Officers rushed to the scene and confirmed it was Barrows. Crawford County Deputies and Arkansas State Police Troopers arrived first and noticed Barrows hanging over the side of the bridge. The Deputies and Troopers struggled with Barrows as he attempted suicide but were able to pull him back up and save his life. The US Marshals Service commends the efforts of all agencies involved especially the Crawford County Sheriff’s Office and Arkansas State Police for their quick response in saving the life of the suspect.
