On a day when news broke of Donald Trump attempting to prop up coal miners with forced buys of coal-produced power comes news of another Arkansas solar energy project.

Ashley-Chicot Electric Cooperative said it is installing a 1 megawatt solar system at Hamburg in cooperation with Today's Power. Rodney Chapman, CEO of ACEC, said the plant could power 135 homes at peak production and reduce power demand charges with clean, renewable power. Today's Power is a subsidiary of Arkansas Electric Cooperatives Inc., which serves 17 distribution cooperatives. This is its fourth solar project in South Arkansas.

Entergy opened an 81-megawatt solar plant, the state's largest, in Arkansas County this week.
