Another morning missing the dignity, intellect and
propriety of Barack Obama.
Donald Trump campaigned for a Republican candidate yesterday in Pennsylvania
, but as usual, his 75-minute performance was mostly about himself. There was the usual hyperbole (death penalty for drug dealers) and misstatement of fact (he claimed 52 percent of women's votes in 2016 when it was 52 percent of white women). There was also a personal rip of NBC's Chuck Todd.
It's 1999, I'm on Meet the Press, a show now headed by sleepy eyes Chuck Todd," Trump recalled. "He's a sleeping son of a bitch. I'll tell you."
Todd responded later
"I bring my kids up to respect the office of the presidency and the President," Todd told News4. "I don’t allow them to say anything negative, ever, about the president."
He continued, "It creates a challenge to all parents when he uses vulgarities like that."
Trump has been calling Todd "sleepy eyes" for years. Making fun of physical appearance is a familiar Trump rhetorical device. Remember the disabled reporter he mocked?
Trump has been down the SOB path before. With this crowd and many others, he probably does himself little harm in swearing about black people or news reporters. But he devalues the presidency. I know. I repeat myself.
