The city of North Little Rock
said Doug Thurmond, a journeyman lineman with the Electric Department, was killed in a job-related accident this morning. Thurmond, 53, had been with the department for 17 years.
A city release said Thurmond was dispatched at 6 a.m. to check a streetlight wire in the road caused by a wreck. Emergency workers were called at 7 a.m. and said he had injuries consistent with electrical shock.
Mayor Joe Smith issued a statement including condolences for Thurmond's wife and son. "Our linemen do a dangerous job and we too often take for granted the service they provide," he said.
