FLIP FLOP: Democratic candidate produces color change in Oklahoma
  • FLIP FLOP: Democratic candidate produces color change in Oklahoma

A 26-year-old Democrat unseated a Republican state Senate incumbent in Oklahoma yesterday in a district that had given Donald Trump 67 percent of the vote (BTW: She's a lesbian.)

It was the third Democratic flip of Republican seats in Tulsa or Oklahoma City. in a recent run of special elections.

Might it offer some hope for Arkansas Democratic efforts?

The party is trying. Candidates with encouraging resumes have emerged in, among others, Saline County, Benton County (two) and in Pulaski County, just to name a few who've announced recently. If Jonathan Crossley, the inspiring school principal, can't wrest a House seat from a nutty Republican in the Jacksonville area, then things truly are hopeless here. Nice report on Crossley this morning in John Brummett's on-line only column.

Nobody expects a change in overall alignment anytime soon. But a reversal of the recent trend, with a pickup of a few seats by Democrats, would be a start.
