Monica Ball of Maumelle,  a retired science teacher in Little Rock and North Little Rock,  is running for House District 39, held by Republican Rep. Mark Lowery, who's beaten back Democratic challengers in two of the last three elections.

Said Ball:

“It’s time to put people before politics,” Ball said. “Public servants need to be in the business of improving the lives of their constituents — not bowing to special interests. Today there is a huge disconnect between elected representatives and those they were elected to represent. My goal is to bridge that gap here in District 39.”

“I understand the struggles and sacrifices of ordinary citizens who make up the backbone of this community,” Ball said. “I know what it’s like to suddenly and unexpectedly lose health insurance and half your household income due to circumstances beyond your control because that’s what happened to me when my husband died a little over 2 years ago. I am familiar with the struggles faced by young people furthering their education and preparing for their careers because my son and his wife are currently in that situation. I am painfully aware that far too many Arkansans go to bed hungry because working families are forced to decide between paying bills or buying groceries. It shouldn’t be this way in the world’s wealthiest nation. That’s why I’m committed to working towards accessible and affordable health care for all; strengthening public education; wise use of our natural and financial resources in Arkansas; and fighting for fair and equitable treatment for all under the law.”

Ball, a graduate of UA with a master's from UCA, works part-time at PCA Technologies of Maumelle and says she spends free time with her three grandchildren.
