Gov. Asa Hutchinson today appointed Lucas Ferguson to succeed Cody Hiland as prosecuting attorney of the judicial circuit based in Conway.  Hiland this week became U.S. attorney for the Eastern District of Arkansas.

The prosecutor covers the 20th Circuit, which includes Faulkner, Van Buren and Searcy counties. Ferguson will serve through Dec. 31, 2018, when the winner of a 2018 election will take over.

Ferguson, whose experience includes a stint as deputy prosecutor, has been senior vice president and general counsel for the Conway Area Chamber of Commerce and Conway Development Corporation. He also is a former member of a private law firm in which Hiland was a partner. A resident of Greenbrier, he's a graduate of UCA and UA-Little Rock Law School.
