Acting on a tip, authorities with the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission found six lions, seven tigers and a leopard being stored in a Poinsett County workshop near Weiner on Saturday.

The Democrat Gazette reports that all the animals were healthy and caged. Their owner, a British man, said he had stored the cats there temporarily while he secured the necessary paperwork to transport them to Memphis International Airport and fly them to Germany. He had not alerted the county that he planned to store the animals there. Police and officers with Game and Fish are reportedly guarding the animals until they can be transported out of the state.

The story brings to mind the 2002 Cleburne County case in which three full-grown lions were apparently released by their owner after being turned away from an animal refuge and terrified the small town of Quitman until they were hunted down and killed.
