  • TIMOTHY BRADEN: Deputy died in crash.
The State Police say a Drew County deputy has died in a crash during a vehicle pursuit about 1:38 a.m. today.

The release:

Drew County Deputy Sheriff Timothy Braden, 29, was killed in the line of duty this morning following a motor vehicle pursuit that ended in a crash just outside Monticello along Barkada Road.

At approximately 1:35 AM (Thursday, August 24th), Deputy Braden initiated a traffic stop involving a vehicle driven by Samuel Vincent, 24, of Monticello. Vincent refused to stop and fled.

Both vehicles were subsequently involved in a crash resulting in the death of Deputy Braden and injuries to Vincent.

An investigation of the crash and pursuit is underway involving both the Arkansas State Police Highway Patrol Division and Criminal Investigation Division. The Arkansas State Police investigation is being conducted at the request of authorities within the Drew County Sheriff’s Department.
More details from SEARK Today:

Both Braden and Vincent were traveling west on Barkada Road when the two drivers simultaneously lost control of their vehicles. The vehicles left the roadway striking a tree and a utility pole. Braden’s vehicle came to rest facing north and Vincent’s vehicle came to rest facing east.

Braden and Vincent were both transported to Drew Memorial Hospital where Braden died.
Vincent was treated at the hospital and taken Ashley County jail. He is expected to have a first appearance hearing Thursday afternoon.
The charges expected to be filed against Vincent, SEARK Today, said, include possession of marijuana with intent to deliver as well as a charge related to the deputy's death, likely first-degree murder, Monticello Live said, quoting the local prosecutor.
