PEGGY EGAN

Peggy Egan, a deputy public defender, is the third candidate to announce for the Little Rock District Court judgeship on the ballot in May. The position is open because Judge Alice Lightle resigned to move out of state and is being filled currently by an appointee, Hugh Finkelstein, who can’t run for the office.

Previously, Deputy Prosecutor Melanie Martin and LaTonya Austin had announced for the judgeship, which presides over the criminal division of what used to be known as Little Rock municipal court. District judges are now fully integrated into the state system.

Egan, a public school teacher for 16 years, moved to Little Rock in 1999 to attend law school and has practiced in Little Rock since, primarily in juvenile and criminal divisions of circuit court. She’s worked the last two years as deputy public defender in Pulaski District Court. She recently received the Pulaski County Bar Association’s Lawyer Citizen Award in recognition of her volunteer work.
