No change yet in transgender policy in military

It's pretty clear Donald Trump consulted no generals before using Twitter to issue a ban on transgender service in the military.

It seems likely this edict is a product of campaigning and junk science from a "religious" right outfit labeled by many as a hate group.

But the policy hasn't been implemented yet. And the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff has written a terse noteto the military saying it won't be implemented until Trump has communicated with the secretary of Defense and guidance for implementation is in place.

First big question: How does this affect the thousands of men and women now serving who could be at peril of dismissal?

Josh Marshall at Talking Points Memo writes that the letter serves to emphasize that there IS a chain of command, that there ARE protocols and, perhaps, that the Pentagon doesn't plan to begin doing official business by Twitter.
