Police officer shoots carjacker in fast food drive-through

  • SHOOTING SCENE: On West Markham
A police officer wounded and stopped a carjacker this afternoon at the Chick-fil-A at 12500 West Markham just off Chenal Parkway

Here's the update from sources at the scene:

A suspected shoplifter was detained in Home Depot nearby. He broke and ran. Officers responding to the call saw the man running. He ran across the Home Depot parking lot to the Chick-fil-A, where he was seen dragging a woman out of a car with a baby seat in the back. As the officer arrived, he fired a shot through the passenger side window of the woman's car. The man, who later told emergency workers he'd been taking drugs, was shot in the arm. The wound isn't believed to be life threatening. There was no baby in the baby seat.

A man driving by in a Jeep with a winch on the front watched the events transpire as he drove west on Markham Street near the Chick-fil-A. He rammed his Jeep into the car to prevent its exit as it drove through bushes at the restaurant.

The suspect is known to authorities, I'm told.
