Little Rock police say Greg Todd,
55, of Benton, was seriously injured after an apparent parachute malfunction when he did a jump over the Country Club of Little Rock's
annual July 4 fireworks show.
Officer Michael Ford, who was providing private security at the event, said Todd was injured parachuting into the event. According to his report, witnesses said Todd's chute opened, but as he was coming down "he became distressed as though a malfunction happened with the parachute and went into a dead spin before crashing to the ground." Emergency workers initially termed injuries critical, but UAMS told Ford later that his vital signs were good and he was listed in stable condition. Ford, who was providing private security at the event, said.
The incident was referred to the Federal Aviation Administration for review, police said.
