The president's deputy press secretary, Sarah Huckabee Sanders, was asked about the offensive tweets during an interview on Fox News Thursday morning.
Sanders suggested that Trump was responding to the "outrageous attacks that take place" on "Morning Joe" and other shows.
"This is a president who fights fire with fire," Sanders said, adding that the president refused to be "bullied."
