Univesity of Arkansas System President Donald Bobbitt has announced two finalists to succeed Dan Rahn, who retires July 31 as chancellor of the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences.
Expected to visit the campus in July are:
* A. Wesley Burks, M.D., executive dean of the School of Medicine at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He’s a graduate of the University of Central Arkansas, got his medical degree at UAMS and spent 18 years at UAMS and Arkansas Children’s Hospital as a faculty member and administrator.
* Danny O. Jacobs, M.D., executive vice president, provost and dean of the School of Medicine at the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston, Texas
Bobbitt worked with a search committee on the choices. He said in a prepared statement that both men “have the experience and leadership skills necessary to lead a major academic medical center.”
They will have two days of meetings with students, faculty, administrators, UA trustees and others in Little Rock, then travel to Northwest Arkansas for meeting leaders of UAMS’ Northwest campus. Jacobs will visit July 16-19 and Burks will visit July 25-28.
