Addition with homes, a mosque and a community center apparently have been abandoned.
On the agenda for the July 5 Little Rock City Board
meeting is a proposal to revoke previous zoning approval for the project at the request of the property owner. The project is "no longer viable," according to notes from the planning staff.
The property would revert to a mix of multi-family and commercial zoning from the current planned development status.
Cheree Franco wrote about the project for the Times
five years ago. At that time, a few homes had been built. Development apparently hasn't progressed much since.
UPDATE: A spokesman for the project called July 10 to say that while the initial project had been scaled back, that the group still planned to move ahead with development on a parcel including the five homes that have been built. The New Africa group still has plans to build a combination mosque and community center.
