SERVING BALONEY: Donald Trump in Iowa.
The morning papers presented a couple of immutable truths about the Trump
era, augmented by Republican control
* IT'S GOOD TO BE RICH:
The proposed Senate health care bill is an enormous transfer of wealth
— from health coverage of the poor to tax cuts for the rich. That was the point, of course. And it will only worsen in the death spiral of government retreat from Medicaid.
* TRUMP'S FABLES:
You can't trust Donald Trump.
This is a truly remarkable accounting
of a dozen examples of falsehoods and pure baloney delivered by Trump
in a campaign rally-style speech in Iowa
this week. No the U.S. isn't the highest taxed country. No the defense spending increase isn't historic. He proposed a curb on benefits for immigrants that is already law. And so on.
I guess I should add a third verity: A controlling number of voters, at least in electoral college terms, are content with a dishonest president and soaking the less fortunate. Relax and enjoy it.
