News from the Trump administration isn't good on the equal rights front, most particularly lately with word that Betsy DeVos is going to scale back civil rights investigations, beginning with any protection for transgender students. Also, six members of an HIV/AIDS advisory council have quit because it's clear Trump just doesn't care.

But, for hopeful news, Right Wing Watch reports on the anti-gay National Organization for Marriage's annual anti-same-sex-marriage march in Washington. It drew "tens" as a photo shows. A little shy of the pink pussy hat turnout, except perhaps by Donald Trump crowd-counting science

Speakers told the crowd of about 50 not to be deterred. They are on the side of "truth."

Most of the country has moved on, whether supportive of same-sex unions or not. The Obergfell equality ruling hasn't ruined marriage or families. It's encouraged both.

Let's just not talk about Texas for the time being, where the governor has signed legislation that effectively allows child welfare agencies to deny services to gay people. Sad to say that you could argue the so-called religious freedom legislation adopted in Arkansas in 2015 already allows such legal cruelty under the color of "religion." I'm still searching for the text in the guidebook for the local dominant local religion that says it is mete and just to pick and choose which sick, hungry, abused and abandoned children are deserving of service and which are not. But there I go again.

Here's an open line.
