Big news for rock fans. Big news for War Memorial Stadium, now in state control and hoping to reinvigorate its use with concerts and other events to compensate for the expected loss of Razorback football games, now down to one a year through 2018.
No word yet on how many seats will be sold or what the revenue for the stadium will be, but I'm inquiring.
UPDATE: Jerry Cohen, manager of the stadium, says the promoters hope to sell 41,000 tickets in the range of $29 to $225. They've already pre-sold about 550 seats in the club seating portion of the enclosed press box. There'll be 1,000 seats in a pit in front of the stage, set up in one end zone, and 6,000 on the field. The stadium will pay the cost of covering the field, about $65,000, and plan to recoup that and more from parking, concession and beer sales.
The last War Memorial concert: 'N Sync in 2001. George Strait, the Eagles
and Rolling Stones made appearances in previous years.
