Eric Higgins, retired assistant Little Rock police chief, is going to make a race for Pulaski County sheriff to succeed the retiring Doc Holladay.

Higgins retired in 2015 after 30 years in police work. He'd been a candidate for the police chief job that went to Kenton Buckner.

Carl Minden, commander of the sheriff's criminal investigations division, had announced his candidacy earlier.

A campaign fund-raiser is set for Higgins Thursday at the Copper Grill. Its prime hosts are a number of familiar names. Supporting sponsors are a who's who of the African-American community.

Here's the full mailer.
