Pulaski County School District officials estimate a storm dropped 4.5 inches of rain on the Robinson Middle School campus on Highway 10 in less than an hour beginning about 11:30 a.m. today. That sent water into some classrooms and piled up silt from the ongoing construction zone of a new middle school to open in two years.

No students were endangered, though some had to be moved out of affected classrooms in a building that has hallways opening to the outside. Parents got a notice that they could take children home early if they desired. But Principal Lance LeVar said the school finished the day with most in classes and would be back in business Monday.

Rain fell so hard that it overwhelmed the drainage system for the football field shared by the middle school and Robinson High School, with the result being "floating" new turf, Superintendent Jerry Guess said.

The Pulaski County government also reported some road flooding in the Morgan/Maumelle area.
