Medicaid: The outlook isn't good

Early reports suggest the Republican-led Senate may do little to ameliorate punishing health legislation passed by the House.

Major cuts in federal spending are in the offing. One senator says the cuts might  provide a "soft landing" — say in the form of tax credits (woo, boy!) — as "states pick up the slack." Hell, states like Arkansas are already busy creating more slack.

A certain presidential candidate once promised no one would lose health coverage under his presidency. He said premiums would be smaller. He said there would be no cuts to Medicaid. He said pre-existing conditions would be covered. He said deductibles would be lower.

If you believed all that, you probably voted for him. Be advised: Sounds like his pals in the Senate are about to stick it to you again. Quoting Sen. Orrin Hatch:

“We want to pay close attention to what the House has done and try to keep as much of that as we can."

PS: Trump people are claiming he never promised to not cut Medicaid. As ever, Trump's Twitter account tells a different story.
