Hot off the political rumor mill: Win Thompson, 71, former president of the University of Central Arkansas, is giving some thought to a run for  Congress from the Second District, as a Democrat.

That would be either in a special election, should incumbent Republican Rep. French Hill land a coveted Treasury Department job and vacate the office, or in 2018.

The Gurdon native has a law degree and a Ph.D.; practiced law in Searcy; was a congressional aide to U.S. Rep. Ray Thornton in the 1970s and then later a college administrator at ASU, UA and UCA (1988-2001). Following UCA, he served stints at American University campuses in the United Arab Emirates, Kuwait, Afghanistan and Kosovo. He's back in Conway these days. Donna Lampkin Stephens wrote about him when he returned last year.
