Hot off the political rumor mill: Win Thompson, 71, former president of the University of Central Arkansas, is giving some thought to a run for  Congress from the Second District, as a Democrat.

That would be either in a special election, should incumbent Republican Rep. French Hill land a coveted Treasury Department job and vacate the office, or in 2018.

The Gurdon native has a law degree and a Ph.D.; practiced law in Searcy; was a congressional aide to U.S. Rep. Ray Thornton in the 1970s and then later a college administrator at ASU, UA and UCA (1988-2001). Following UCA, he served stints at American University campuses in the United Arab Emirates, Kuwait, Afghanistan and Kosovo. He’s back in Conway these days.
