The Trump budget promises pain in innumerable programs large and small. Little Rock Mayor Mark Stodola noted a few city-specific categories in his weekly e-mail message:

Among spending proposed for elimination:

* COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT BLOCK GRANTS: The city received $1.3 million this year that goes to a community health clinic operated with CHI St. Vincent; Meals on Wheels; home rehab programs that reduce neighborhood blight; a wheelchair ramp program; programs for the homeless, and youth training. Statewide, similar programs get $23 million.

* HOME INVESTMENT PARTNERSHIPS: It provided $516,000 to provide new housing in poor neighborhoods and low-cost home rehabilitation. Some $8 million is spent on this program statewide.

* CORPORATION FOR NATIONAL AND COMMUNITY SERVICE: This underwrites AmeriCorps, which put 400 people to work in schools, energy conservation, at the Boys and Girls Clubs, at Our House and at the Arkansas Literacy Council.

Call your congressman, the mayor suggests. While you're at it, ask U.S. Rep. French Hill if he ever plans a public town hall on this and, more important, the proposed devastation of the Affordable Care Act.
