Another setback for highway construction legislation

Rep. Dan Douglas, lead sponsor of the legislation to finance a highway construction program, failed today to expunge the vote on the bill to ask voters to authorize a bond issue, which would in turn trigger putting the state sales tax on the wholesale price of fuel.

The bill fell 13 votes short of passage last week. Douglas asked that the vote be expunged. The vote was 61-24, but it needed 67 votes. So there the matter lies for the time being.
