Sen. Jason Rapert
TEAR DOWN THAT SIGN! So said Sen. Jason Rapert. But he's dropped the fight.
has apparently given up — unsurprisingly, given lack of support from anybody else — on his effort to force the renaming of the Bill and Hillary Clinton National Airport in Little Rock.
His bill to add airports to the list of public structures for which names of living people may not be attached is still pending. But he filed an amendment to the bill Thursday to drop the section of the law that would have retroactively applied to the Little Rock airport and required renaming it by Jan. 1.
Gov. Asa Hutchinson
was most prominent among those who indicated lack of support for Rapert's idea. The airport is controlled by a municipal commission, not the state, but the commission is a creation of state law and the legislature can screw around with many things if they desire.
Note: A change.org petition
to name the sewage tanks in Conway
after Rapert is still active, with almost 2,500 signers.
