House narrowly defeats 2nd try on bill to limit class action lawsuits

The House voted 50-31, one vote short of passage, for HB 1742 to essentially bar class action lawsuit under the deceptive trade practices act.

The vote followed a 56-28 vote for reconsideration of yesterday's defeat of the bill and also mentions that, if the bill passed, an amendment might be added in the Senate to address objections that the bill would eliminate a powerful tool against payday lenders, who've begun operating in the state again thanks to Attorney General Leslie Rutledge's unwillingness to act against them.
