The Little Rock police report that a night of gambling turned violent Saturday at a residence at 3301 S. Polk Street, near the corner of Asher and Fair Park.

Officers responding to a shooting report about 8:29 p.m.  found blood on the ground and a shattered glass front door, but no one inside. They also found empty shell casings and a .40-caliber handgun in the street.

Police subsequently got a call to a  critically wounded gunshot victim at University Hospital. Companions said people inside the house were gambling. One of the players got upset that he'd lost. He reportedly walked outside, came back in with a gun and shot Marquis Sledge, 28.

Two men ran from the house. One of them said he'd used a weapon in self-defense and officers took that gun. It was unknown if the initial shooter was wounded. Officers searching for suspects say they also found another crime scene with unspecified evidence in a parking lot at 5322 Asher.
