Facebook Thursday announced a $1 million gift of 500 virtual reality its to 250 Arkansas high schools and other education centers to promote computer literacy.

Gov. Asa Hutchinson was on hand for the announcement at Central High School. Facebook said it was beginning a national project in Arkansas because of the governor's emphasis on computer instruction at the high school level.

The Oculus Rift virtual reality kits include a computer, headset and 360-degree camera. It is hoped students will develop virtual reality programs with them and enhance their computer knowledge in the process.
