Pryors pitch in on City Board race

The invitation indicates familiar names — Mark and David Pryor -- backing Capi Peck in her race for Little Rock City Board for the ward seat being vacated by Brad Cazort.

Her opponent is real estate man Jeff Yates. And I forgot originally to add Roy Brooks, the former school superintendent.

This promises to be an interesting race.

City board races are non-partisan, but there will be those in West Little Rock (looking at you Lance Hines) who'll be trying to depict this as somehow a Republican-Democrat choice on account of Peck's progressive record. Progress? That isn't the most important product, to borrow the old GE catch phrase, of the business establishment. They prefer status quo.   They also like sprawl and taking care of developers. See that massive apartment project, opposed by neighbors, that Hines supported the other day in WLR that other directors voted down.

Peck, by dint of nothing more than hard work and talent, has made a success of 30 years in a very tough business, food service (restaurants and catering). No corporate welfare. And if anybody could whine, but doesn't, it's a restaurant operator who must put huge sales and alcohol taxes on every bill.

A favorite talking point of the anti-Peck crowd is that the board already has enough women like Kathy Webb. I say: Let their numbers increase.
