Few details yet, but the photo we've received suggests some damage to Midtown Billiards,
the popular after-hours tavern on Main Street.
Smoke broke through the roof and adjacent doorways. Our photographer, Brian Chilson, reports seeing firefighters break a window to remove a burning grill vent from the building. Grease in the vent for the Midtown burger griddle? Seems possible.
Chilson reports serious fire damage to bar area.
UPDATE FROM LINDSEY:
General Manager David Shipps
said he hasn't been able to enter the bar yet, but fire officials have told him the fire was concentrated in the front of the bar and the entire space sustained a lot of smoke damage.
Midtown has been in operation since 1940, Shipps said, and in its current location since sometime in the 1970s. At least in recent years, it was open every day of the year save a select holiday or two.
