Planned Parenthood switching affiliation to Kansas group

Planned Parenthood centers in Arkansas (Little Rock and Fayetteville) and eastern Oklahoma (Tulsa) are changing their affiliation from Planned Parenthood of the Heartland, based in Des Moines, to Planned Parenthood Great Plains, in Overland Park, Kan.

The group says it sees a greater geographic connection with the association and the change could bolster support for the Arkansas centers. That's important. The Republican governor, Asa Hutchinson, has cut off Medicaid funding to Planned Parenthood. Sustained attacks have created other challenges for the organization, which provides a wide range of medical services as well as pharmaceutical abortion. It is also waging lawsuits against the state's effort to both strip Medicaid funding and to impose unconstitutional restrictions that essentially would make abortion services impossible. A judge has so far blocked the abortion-limiting law and has provided some limited protection for women receiving Medicaid medical services.

A statement said:

“This change will enable both affiliates to further optimize services and provide care to as many patients as possible across the Heartland and Great Plains regions. Planned Parenthood affiliates across the county are committed to care, no matter what, now and far into the future.”
The hope is that the change could  lead to expanded hours and services, such as LGBTQ specific services, menopausal services and others.

Contributions to Planned Parenthood are always gratefully accepted.
