  • COURTNEY GOODSON: Gets off casino amendment challenge.
Supreme Court Justice Courtney Goodson Thursday filed a one-sentence letter  saying that she would recuse from the case in which opponents of the casino gambling amendment are trying to have it disqualified for an insufficient ballot title and flawed signature-gathering.

Goodson did not give a reason and is not required to do so. Gov. Asa Hutchinson will appoint a special justice to replace her.

The subject prompted me to check: As yet no recusals from the lawsuit challenging the amendment seeking to limit damages in nursing home cases to as little as $250,000. As I've mentioned before, five members of the Supreme Court have received nursing home money — Goodson the most, followed by Rhonda Wood. Justice Jo Hart even thanked nursing home owner Michael Morton, a major bankroller of the amendment, when she took the bench. Justices Karen Baker and Robin Wynne also took nursing home campaign contributions.
