EAST VILLAGE: It includes the former paint factory in brick building at Sixth and Shall.
The Little Rock City Board
this week will consider a zoning request for the so-called East Village,
the mixed-use development that Cromwell Architects and Engineers
plans for three blocks along East Sixth Street at Shall for property including a vacant former paint factory.
The plan has no opposition. It would inject a major investment into derelict property and add to other nearby signs of life east of Interstate 30, including a couple of microbreweries, a distillery, Heifer International
and the Clinton Presidential Center.
(Good luck traversing Interstate 30 to get there when the Concrete Gulch engineers start building their 10-lane freeway to Cabot nearby.)

This won't be controversial Tuesday. But two items will be: A cash incentive for new city employees
who live in the city and City Director Erma Hendrix's proposal to require residency
of new police officers
. City Director Joan Adcock,
seeking re-election and hoping to curry favor with current city employees, has said an incentive for new employees is unfair to existing employees. Hendrix has tried unsuccessfully to pass a police residency measure before.
