Democrats back medical marijuana, sort of

An AP Twitter caught my attention with this headline: "Eldridge, Arkansas Democrats back medical marijuana."

Closer inspection: Senate candiate Conner Eldridge and the Democratic Party endorse medical marijuana — a "responsible" program in Eldridge's word or for "severe health issues" in the words of the party — but neither explicitly endorsed either of the medical marijuana initiatives that may be on the ballot in November.

That makes Eldridge and the Democrats appear somewhat better in the eyes of the polling majority that appears to favor medical marijuana, but not so forthright that they back ballot measures that will get a drubbing from well-financed business and virtually uniform Republican opposition if they do make the ballot.

Both sides now?

One issue is clear. The Democratic Party supports pre-K education. The Republican Party does not. Sadly, on an issue with far more long-lasting consequences, the Democrats are solid winners and it seems likely it's an issue with virtual no resonance among voters. Except those already planning to vote Democratic.
