  • ROY BROOKS: Former school chief in city board race.
City Director Dean Kumpuris drew no opposition for re-election to another term on  the Little Rock City Board, but contested races developed for three other positions on the ballot.

The filings:

Ward 4
(The seat from a segment of western Little Rock for which incumbent Brad Cazort is not seeking re-election).

Dr. Roy Brooks
Capi Peck
Jeff Yates

Capi Peck, the restaurateur and member of the Little Rock Advertising and Promotion Commission, announced early in the process. Jeff Yates is in the real estate business and has served on the Planning Commission. Roy Brooks, 65, is the former Little Rock school superintendent, fired in 2007, who later held jobs at eStem and a Georgia school district. He says he's been doing consulting work lately. "I've lived a great life and I want to give back to the community I love," Brooks told me. He said his top aim would be the city budget. "I want to find inefficiencies and then I want to cut costs."

Position 8: (At-large)

Director Dean Kumpuris

Position 9: (At-large)

Director Gene Fortson
Jason Ferguson
Dr. Clayton Johnson

Fortson will be popular in the business community. Clayton Johnson, a high school teacher and frequent City Hall critic, had announced earlier.  The new name, Jason Ferguson is a pastor in the Christian Church, Disciples of Christ and former grassroots political consultant, who says he's interested in representing people in all walks of life, not just those with "big wallets."

Position 10: (At-large)

Director Joan Adcock
Molly Miller

No change today in a race declared some weeks ago. It pits the longest running board incumbent against an energetic challengers with Clinton School of Public Service background who's been developing a social media presence to go after Adcock.

MOLLY MILLER: Taking on Joan Adcock.
