Constitution prevails again for Planned Parenthood

Yet another federal judge, this one in Ohio, has struck down a state's effort to take Medicaid money away from Planned Parenthood because the organization provides abortions, primarily pharmaceutical ones.

Gov. Asa Hutchinson tried that in Arkansas and also got slapped down by a federal judge. The money helps poor women get basic medical services, including cancer and STD screening. For now, the constitution prevails. From Ohio:

The group's attorneys say the law is unconstitutional because it requires, as a condition of receiving government funds, that recipients abandon their constitutionally protected rights to free speech and to provide abortion services.

"A long line of precedent confirms that the state may not seek to leverage its control of public funds to coerce funding recipients to relinquish their constitutional rights in this manner," the organization said in the lawsuit.
