The Arkansas lottery
reported today that lottery ticket sales were up more than $6.5 million in July compared with July 2015, thanks in part to big sales of tickets in the national Powerball and Mega Millions games.
But scratch-off ticket sales were also up 8 percent, or more than $2 million, against the same month a year ago.
The lottery reported $38.2 million in sales in July and $29.3 million expenses (the bulk in payment of winning tickets), for a $8.9 million net operating income to support college scholarships.
By way of comparison: The lottery, in its first July of operation in July 2010 reported $35 million in revenue and $26.6 million in operating costs, for a gross profit of $8.3 million. On-line games that year produced only $5 million in sales that month, a figure almost doubled in July 2016.
